My darling friend Samantha knows me too well – she knows what a true Bey-loonie I am – and she sent me this with the message: “Best Beyonce cover ever. This just makes me happy! Like I’ve come out of church and found Jesus happy :)”…so here we go – enjoy!
Since I discovered Sauti Sol they have been pretty much playing on repeat on my phone and I simply cannot get enough – every bus commute in inner London is just SO much better to the sound of Sauti Sol.
Repeat: Sauti Sol is a Kenyan afro-pop band formed in Nairobi by vocalists Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano and Delvin Mudigi in 2005. Initially an a capella group, guitarist Polycarp Otieno joined before they formed their current full group. In April 2014, they released their very sexy and steamy music video for the song “Nishike” (is it embarassing that I really really REALLY enjoy this song?! **puts on song right now**) – their third single off the album “Live and Die in Africa”.
Bien-Aimé Baraza – lead vocals, guitar
Willis Austin Chimano – vocals, saxophone, keytar
Delvin Savara Mudigi – vocals, percussion, drums
Polycarp Otieno – guitar
After releasing the infamous “Nishike” they went on to release the wonderful “Sura Yako” back in September 2014 (click here to see) – UGH, how I would LOVE to see these guys live in London!!
A couple of years ago I was introduced to a Canadian electronic music duo called “Purity Ring” and fell in love immediately. The band consists of Megan James (vocals) and Corin Roddick (instrumentals) and they are apparently originally from Edmonton. And no, I don’t just love them because they’re Canadian, their music is just hauntingly beautiful.
Back in 2012 they had released “Shrines” and that was my album on repeat for months, so now I’m very terribly super mega excited that they have been working on a new album called “Another Eternity” which is due for release on the 3rd of March AND are going to be in London again in April performing live on the 30th – OBVS I already have my tickets…
